The 46 Best Hospitals In California: New National Ranking

CALIFORNIA — Forty-six hospitals have been ranked the best in the Golden State in a new report from Newsweek.

The publication worked with data firm Statista to analyze hundreds of medical facilities across the country to create the America’s Best In-State Hospitals 2025 report, based on metrics from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the AHA Annual Survey of Hospitals Database, patient experience surveys, and a nationwide online survey of medical professionals.

Stanford Hospital was the top-ranked hospital in California and received a Patient Experience Award. UCLA Health - Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles placed second, receiving high marks in voluntary "Patient-Reported Outcome Measures" (PROMs) surveys.

The 2025 best in-state hospitals list features medical facilities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The hospitals were ranked based on quality metrics from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and national surveys, including:

• The American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey of Hospitals Database, an online nationwide survey among medical professionals;
• Results from Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems patient-experience surveys; and
• Voluntary implementation surveys on PROMs (patient-reported outcome measures).
