VENTURA, CA — A 5-year-old was killed in an accident at a Ventura beach, according to a friend of the child’s family, whose fundraiser to support the boy’s parents had generated nearly $70,000 in donations as of Monday.
Maxwell Oliver Haworth was standing on rocks Aug. 31 at Rincon Beach when one dislodged, causing another above it to fall and injure the boy, according to the GoFundMe. The boulder fell on top of the child, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“Max will be immensely missed by all who knew him,” family friend Bryan Holloway wrote on the GoFundMe webpage. “He was an energetic spirit with a huge heart that brought so much joy to not only his parents lives, but some of his closest friends and family’s lives.”
