Big Lots CA Store Closures Balloon As Chain Falters: Complete List

CALIFORNIA — As Big Lots continues to grapple with financial troubles, the discount retailer plans to close almost 70 percent of its 109 stores in California.

In recent regulatory filings, the discount retailer announced plans to close 74 stores in California — 20 more than the 54 closures previously announced.

Big Lots posted a net loss of $205 million for the first quarter, prompting the company in a regulatory filing to warn that it has "substantial doubts" it can continue as a functioning business.

At the time, Big Lots planned to close as many as 40 of its stores. But when it later identified which of its stores would be closing down for good, that number ballooned to 150 nationwide.

Now, the number of stores set to be shuttered has more than doubled to 315, including the 74 in California, according to a U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission filing from July 31.

Big Lots has 1,392 stores nationwide, and California's 109 stores mark its biggest market.

The stores to-be-closed are identified individually on Big Lots online store locator. The locations are offering discounts of up to 20 or 30 percent off ahead of their closures. Big Lots has not indicated when the stores will be closed.
