CA Among 20 Most Conspiracy-Obsessed States In America: Report

CALIFORNIA — From the deaths of historical figures such as Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great to witch hunts, conspiracy theories have been put forward for centuries.

With the rise of the internet and social media platforms, conspiracy theories can gain traction quickly in the 21st century.

With this in mind, the analysts at Yardbarker looked at eight of the most commonly talked about conspiracy theories in America to find the most conspiracy-obsessed states.

The data revealed that California ranks No. 9 among America's 20 most conspiracy-obsessed states. When looking at total searches for all eight conspiracies, California had 2,443 searches per 100,000 residents.

The report showed the top 20 most conspiracy-obsessed states.

When looking at searches per 100,000 for specific conspiracy theories in the study, below is how California fared.

"California's place in the top 10 most conspiracy-obsessed states was largely down to the fact it had the most searches per 100,000 for Bohemian Grove, at a whopping 1,429," Yardbarker wrote. "While this may not surprise many due to Bohemian Grove being located in the state, California also ranked in the top 20 —17th— when it came to interest in the Illuminati."

Methodology

Yardbarker gathered eight of the most talked about conspiracy theories in America and used Keywordtool.io to analyze the number of searches by U.S. states over the last 12 months.
Each state’s number of searches was then divided by the state’s population before being multiplied by 100,000 to give a per 100,000 population number for each theory in all 50 states.

Data was correct as of November 2024. The theories included were:

• Extra-terrestrial activity in Area 51
• Ongoings at Bohemian Grove
• Bigfoot
• Flat Earth
• The Illuminati
• Chemtrails
• The Moon Landing
• The assassination of John F. Kennedy
