CA Has 8 Of Top 10 Cities With Highest DUI Rates: Ranking
Every city in the top 10 was from either California or North Carolina.
CALIFORNIA — Eight of the 10 major U.S. cities with the highest rates of driving under the influence are in California, according to a recent ranking.
Online loan marketplace LendingTree analyzed tens of millions of QuoteWizard by LendingTree insurance quotes to determine which of the nation’s 50 largest cities had the highest DUI rates.
While Raleigh came in first with the most DUIs per 1,000 drivers and Charlotte, another North Carolina city, was ninth on the list, the other eight cities in the top 10 were all in the Golden State:

- Raleigh, 1.46 DUIs per 1,000 drivers
- Sacramento, 1.31
- Los Angeles, 1.12
- San Jose, 1.09
- Bakersfield, 1.05
- Fresno, 0.9
- San Diego, 0.87
- Long Beach, 0.69
- Charlotte, 0.67
- Oakland, 0.61
The cities that had the lowest DUI rates were Detroit at 0.02 per 1,000 drivers followed by Washington with 0.04 and Oklahoma City with 0.05.
Drivers in the 50 cities included in the ranking see an annual vehicle insurance rate increase of $1,876.90 — or more than $150 per month — on average with a DUI.
