VACAVILLE, CA — A Bay Area man recently learned he had been paying his neighbor’s utility bill, possibly for as long as 18 years, according to reports.

Ken Wilson lives alone in a Vacaville apartment, his home since 2006, but he noticed his PG&E bill spike a few months ago, ABC7 reported Tuesday, adding he tried to reduce his power use before eventually calling the utility and learning he had been paying for the unit next door.

In a statement to CBS13, a PG&E spokesperson apologized and said the problem could go back as far as 2009. The utility later credited Wilson over $600 to compensate for three years of overpayment and fixed the meter so he would be billed for his own unit, according to the outlet.
