Carr Fire: Death Toll Rises In Out-Of-Control California Blaze
The Carr Fire in Shasta County grew to 103,772 acres as thousands of firefighters worked to contain the massive blaze.

SHASTA COUNTY, CA -- An out-of-control wildfire in Northern California grew to 103,772 acres Monday as the public mourned the loss of yet another death. As of Monday, the blaze, which was just 23 percent contained, killed six people with more than a dozen other reported missing.
The Carr Fire in Shasta County was one of many fires to scorch through the state over the weekend, burning more than 230,000 acres, displacing tens of thousands of Californians and destroying hundreds of homes.
On Sunday, officials said a sixth body was found inside a home that ordered to be evacuated. The deceased was not identified, but the five other victims were: James Roberts, 5, Emily Roberts, 4, and their grandmother Melody Bledsoe, 70, and firefighters Jeremy Stoke and Don Ray Smith.

Despite the grim numbers, fire officials were hopeful the forward progress of the fire would stop as a Red Flag Warning expired Monday morning, making weather conditions calmer in the region.
