Carr Fire: GoFundMe Created For 7th Victim

A GoFundMe has been created for the family of Jairus Ayeta, the seventh person to die from the devastating California wildfire.

CALIFORNIA -- A GoFundMe was underway Monday for the family of a Pacific Gas and Electric Company worker who was killed in the devastating Carr Fire that has swept through Northern Califronia, burning 1,500 structures and 163,000 acres.

PG&E said 21-year-old Jairus Ayeta died while performing restoration work in western Shasta County, according to the Sacramento Bee.

A GoFundMe page created for Ayeta's family said he was an apprentice lineman who came from Uganda.

"He had a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that was infectious to all of those around him," the GoFundMe said. "He had a strong work ethic and was always jumping at the opportunity to learn new things and work with his friends. He was loved by many and played a key role in the upbeat atmosphere of his apprentice class."

Cedric Shelby, Ayeta's neighbor, told Fox40 the lineman was friendly.

“We talked, shared conversation together," Shelby told the news station. "I didn’t know he was a fellow lineman, just a good, down to earth, low key person. Every time you see him, he’s friendly, he speaks. We’d talk about what’s going on in the community, that type of thing."

Ayeta is the seventh person to die in the Carr Fire that also killed two firefighters. Another two firefighters died in the Ferguson Fire in Mariposa County, officials said.
