The movement seeks to break the Golden State in two: "We intend to make California a great state again."

"We're doing this because we think that we have a totalitarian government in California today, and have had for quite some time," he told the newspaper.
Preson, who's also a talk show host for One Radio Network, says his group formally declared independence in 2018. Since then, he says his supporters have held weekly demonstrations to educate the public on the effort to discuss "why we feel we are living in tyranny."

"We are going to be New California within two years, so I hope everybody starts to climb on board with what we're doing," Preson said in a recent video, urging people to check out the movement's map.
That map is based on the "rural areas" of California. The movement aims to assume control of all the state's counties except Sacramento, Marin, San Mateo, Alameda, Santa Clara and Los Angeles counties.
