'Let's Buy CA': Danes Sign Petition To Acquire The Golden State
A tongue-in-cheek petition to buy California from Trump is pitching "avocado toast forever, tech dominance and Disneyland" to Danes.

CALIFORNIA — Tens of thousands of Danish people have signed a "Denmarkification" petition to buy California from the United States.
"Los Angeles? More like Løs Ångeles," the petition muses.
The online petition has grabbed nearly 200,000 signatures from the Scandinavian country Denmark, which has a population of nearly 6 million people.

The campaign to buy the nation's most prosperous and populous state is a cheeky response to President Donald Trump's remarks about the U.S. acquiring Greenland from Denmark.
"Have you ever looked at a map and thought, 'You know what Denmark needs? More sunshine, palm trees, and roller skates.' Well, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make that dream a reality," the campaign website reads. "Let's buy California from Donald Trump!"

The petition claims its crowdfunding goal is $1 trillion — "give or take a few billion."
Petitioners are pitching five major incentives to Danes — Sunshine galore, tech dominance, avocado toast forever, to protect the free world and Disneyland, which it proposes to rename Hans Christian Andersenland.
"Mickey Mouse in a Viking helmet? Yes, please," petitioners wrote.
The petition jokes that Trump might even go for the sale, given the president's disdain for the state's policies.
"Trump isn’t exactly California’s biggest fan. He’s called it 'the most ruined state in the Union' and has feuded with its leaders for years. We’re pretty sure he’d be willing to part with it for the right price."
Before taking office for his second term on Jan. 20, Trump said he would not rule out the use of military force to seize control of Greenland, calling it vital to U.S. national security. His oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., visited Greenland last month and told citizens: “We’re going to treat you well.”
Denmark and Greenland respectively, did not take too kindly to the idea.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has called Trump's fixation "absurd" after Trump's first remarks about Greenland during his first term.
Earlier this month, Greenland’s parliament passed a bill that bans political parties from receiving contributions “from foreign or anonymous contributors” after President Donald Trump expressed his wish that the United States take over the vast and mineral-rich Arctic island that belongs to Denmark.
Though the petition is in no way serious, having another country buy California or even just the state seceding from the U.S. would prove disastrous for the nation's economy. The Golden State's economy ranks fifth in the world, according to the Public Policy Institute of California.
While the idea of universal health care, hygge and organic smørrebrød on every street corner might sound appealing to many, Californians will have to drive over to Solvang to get their Danish fix.
