- The state has struck a significant agreement allowing Uber and Lyft drivers — who are currently classified as independent contractors — to unionize and bargain collectively. - The state Assembly is continuing its efforts to target private-equity takeovers of medical practices. The body unanimously passed a bill that would ban private-equity firms and hedge funds from influencing clinical decisions within medical and dental practices. As the Wall Street Journal reports, this bill is designed more narrowly than a proposal Gov. Gavin Newsom previously vetoed.
