Suspected Armed Prowler Arrested In Redding Evacaution Zone

Police said Mitchell Bryan Stuebgen, a methamphetamine addict, had multiple weapons.

REDDING, CA -- Police said a methamphetamine addict who is prohibited from possessing a firearm was arrested after he was seen roaming an evacuation area in Redding during the deadly Carr Fire. Mitchell Bryan Stuebgen, 45, of Redding, was found at 10:45 p.m. July 28 in a port of Lake Boulevard, police said.

Stuebgen, who admitted to being a methamphetamine addict, was wearing camouflaged clothing and admitted to knowing the area was under evacuation. He is prohibited from possessing a firearm and ammunition, police said.

Stuebgen was booked at the Shasta County Jail for carrying a loaded concealed firearm, being in possession of prohibited weapons, being a drug addict in possession of a firearm and ammunition and being inside an evacuated area.

The fire erupted by a vehicle Monday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 299 and Carr Powerhouse Road in Whiskeytown, before making its way to Redding and other parts of the county.

By Sunday, six people were killed by the blaze while 83,800 acres burned.
