Terrifying CA Footage Shows 'Zipper' Ride Malfunction: Report
The state is reportedly investigating the incident in which a carriage detached from the popular carnival ride.
PICO-UNION, CA — California safety regulators are investigating a malfunction that occurred this week on a popular carnival ride called The Zipper in Southern California.
Footage of the terrifying moment in Pico-Union began circulating online Monday, showing some of the carriages of the ride slamming into each other. The video appeared to show one of them detaching.
The ride, commonly known as The Zipper, appeared to have stopped mid-ride with people inside. A witness can be heard saying that some of the riders were trapped for up to an hour.

ABC7 reported that the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health's (Cal/OSHA) Amusement Ride and Tramway Unit is investigating the incident.

The video footage was taken on Friday at Bishop Conaty - Our Lady of Loretto High School's "Family Fun Day" event. No injuries were reported.
The modern Zipper carnival ride came around in 1968 and was based on the 1928 Swooper ride.
