101 Freeway Closures Expected In Agoura Hills For Wildlife Crossing

Agoura Hills will see a closure on the 101 Freeway Thursday for wildlife crossing construction.

AGOURA HILLS, CA — Construction on the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing was expected to cause freeway closures Thursday in Agoura Hills.

The Liberty Canyon northbound on-ramp to the Ventura (101) Freeway closed at 9 a.m. Thursday and was expected to reopen at 3 p.m. Detour signs were provided on the freeway, according to Caltrans.

The construction is currently in Stage 1, which will ultimately bring a vegetated bridge structure over the freeway. Stage 1 is scheduled to be complete in fall 2022, commencing Stage 2 which includes creating tunnels and bridges over Agoura Road and Vendell Place.

The wildlife crossing, which aims to protect wildlife from traffic and preserve biodiversity, is projected to cost around $88 million, according to Caltrans.
