Agoura Community Leader Helps Thousands Connect To Health Services

AGOURA HILLS, CA — Without community leaders, Agoura Hills wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

How do you know this community leader?

I am the Executive Director of Community Conscience and Woodrow serves as our Vice President. He will be the President in January 2024.

What does this community leader do?

For Woody, a life of advocacy has meant serving in a well-rounded variety of causes. Currently he is the Vice President of Community Conscience in the City of Thousand Oaks, CA. Woody believes that health outcomes for people of color are enhanced with treatment by people who look like them. In this vein, he has been involved with the Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA’s Minority Training Program in Cancer Control Research. He’s also served as a patient advocate at the Los Robles Medical Center, served on the Scientific Advisory Committee at the American Cancer Society and Stand Up to Cancer’s Translational Lung Cancer Research collaborative, and as Chair Emeritus – Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, Member of the American Cancer Society’s Extramural Grants Council, and various peer review committees.

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?

Mr. Brokenburr is well-known and well-respected in the community, a thoughtful leader, and a magnificent motivational speaker. His gift of time and talent is appreciated by all who encounter his passion and leadership. He is an asset to any group he works with. Through his volunteerism he has helped agencies run more efficiently and make positive decisions towards their future operations. This in turn has helped thousands of people who access services provided by these agencies. For this reason he should be honored.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?

Woodrow is energetic, enthusiastic, and spreads his positive energy to all who work beside him. As a volunteer he fulfills his commitments and does all the groundwork needed to ensure events and fundraisers, such as our annual Mardi Gras Ball, are successful. He leads by serving with compassion, great listening skills, and thoughtful feedback. His attention to details and seeing the whole picture in an organization enables him to leave a legacy of growth to any organization he is involved with.
