Agoura Hills Doctor to be Named a 'Legend'

Dr. David Heber is recognized for a his lifetime of achievements by the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

David Heber, MD, PhD will be honored by the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (LA BioMed) for his lifetime of accomplishments at its annual Legends event at Palos Verdes Golf Club on April 24.

Seattle physician Ronald J. Nelson, MD, will also be recognized.

“This will be a very special evening ... culminating in a dinner to honor the extraordinary accomplishments and careers of Dr. Heber and Dr. Nelson,” said David I. Meyer, PhD, LA BioMed president and CEO. “Both of our Legends honorees began their careers at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and became leaders in their fields of research.”

Heber is the founding director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition and founding chief of the Division of Clinical Nutrition in the Department of Medicine. In addition, he’s conducted extensive research into obesity treatment and nutrition for cancer prevention and treatment.

Heber has written more than 225 peer-reviewed scientific articles and more than 80 book chapters. He’s also authored six books.

“Harbor supported my formative years as a resident, fellow and junior faculty," Heber wrote in an email to Patch. "The generous nature of the environment was critical to my future career.”
