AGOURA HILLS, CA — Bruce Whizin and his family donated about 15 acres to the city of Agoura Hills to be preserved as open space.

The donation agreement was unanimously approved at the city council's meeting Wednesday, accepting five parcels of land as city property. Bruce Whizin had been working for years on the transfer died in July. The property sits along the south side of Agoura Road west of Kanan Road.

An appraisal found the plot to be worth over $7 million in 2019, according to a staff report.

"We've been working on this for a few years on this. Unfortunately, he passed away but his kids have followed through with his wishes," Mayor Pro Tem Illece Buckley Weber said. "I just wanted to thank the Whizin family for that."

Four of the five parcels are to be preserved as open space and one of the parcels can only be developed for very low, low or moderate income housing, according to the agreement between Creekside Terrace LP and the city. The city is expected to transfer the property to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy within a year of the donation being finalized.
