Agoura-to-Malibu Commute Improvements Could Be On The Way
Malibu is exploring how it can improve traffic and safety on Malibu Canyon Road.

MALIBU, CA — With over 20,000 daily trips, Malibu Canyon Road is often congested with commuters traveling between the coast and Agoura Hills and Calabasas — and now the city is exploring options for improving safety and traffic issues.
The city on Tuesday put out a call for companies interested in working on proposals to improve a stretch of the thoroughfare from from Civic Center Way to Potter Road. Whichever firm is selected, which is expected to happen after mid-June, will study existing traffic volume and patterns and create recommendations for improving the road.
Malibu is particularly focused on addressing the long wait times Malibu Knolls residents often face when exiting and entering their neighborhood, and the impact that traffic, as well as commuter traffic through the mountains, has on overall traffic and safety conditions.

Another common issue occurs during peak travel times when motorists heading north on Pacific Coast Highway cut through Civic Center Way to get to Malibu Canyon Road, according to city documents.
A related project is already underway. Malibu's PCH Signal Synchronization Project involves upgrading the light at PCH and Malibu Canyon Road. The project will interconnect all signals on PCH from Topanga Canyon Road to John Tyler Drive.
