Or Echad to Participate in 1,000 Shabbat Celebrations

The "frommunity" -- friends and community -- will come together.

From a press release:

On Nov. 14 Or Echad will join the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles in hosting one of the 1,000 Shabbat Celebrations.

“Let’s Shine as One,” is the motto of this annual event. “Or Echad translates to One Light, so it seems appropriate that we participate in showing our unity with the Jewish community in celebrating the blessings of Shabbat with our frommunity,” says John Laurie, who, together with his wife, Joanne, are the Committee Chairs and Hosts for the event.

This will be the third year that Rabbi Ira and Cantor Beth Rosenfeld, co-founders of Or Echad, will be hosting 1,000 Shabbats.

“It’s a special feeling to celebrate Shabbat with your community, and also to know that literally 1,000 others are celebrating Shabbat at the same time,” says Cantor Beth. “Our affiliation with the Jewish Federation, as well as with the Jewish Outreach Institute, has been invaluable in helping us to continue to include and appreciate everyone interested in connecting to their Jewish identity,” states Rabbi Ira.

He adds, “At all of our events, schmoozing (socializing), singing, and celebrating are on the agenda, and we always have activities and crafts to keep the children engaged as they have fun with friends and learn. All are welcome!!”

Frommunity is a phrase coined by Rabbi Ira to promote the concept of friends and community coming together – forming frommunity. This was a theme of their High Holy Day services which took place in Founders Hall in Calabasas. Over 220 attendees joined the frommunity to welcome the New Year together.

This marked a record year for Or Echad as the attendance has steadily grown over the past 5 years. Members live all over Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and they brought their family members to join in from as far as Florida, New York, Boston and Mexico as well.

Please contact Rabbi Ira at (818) 486-9685 or RabbiIra@yahoo.com to get the address of the event or for more information about Or Echad or HomeShul, their home-based Jewish Education program. Rabbi Ira and Cantor Beth are also available for a free consultation.
