A popular pastime on balmy summer evenings is grabbing a picnic and enjoying a free outdoor concert in the park with friends and family. One of the best places where the hills come alive with crowd-pleasing music is right in our own backyard.
The city-sponsored Summer Concerts in the Park series is known for bringing a popular line up to the stage, and the 2013 season promises to present fun-filled nights with headlining bands and a special fireworks show in July.
A “Kidszone” will keep the kids entertained with a giant slide and other activities while parents listen to their favorite tunes. A variety of food trucks will be offering complete picnics-to-go plus snacks and desserts, beginning an hour before the show.
The free summer concert series schedule is:
June 16: Surfin’ Safari
This Father’s Day grab your favorite guy for an evening of legendary surf hits by the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean. Surfin’ Safari brings back the ‘60s with an awesome tribute as close as you’ll get to witnessing a Beach Boy concert: the incomparable beauty of their vocal harmonies, the crashing back beat of Dennis Wilson’s drums, the soaring surf guitar of Carl Wilson, and the genius of Brian Wilson’s music is all on stage. They’ll provide a night of fun, fun, fun 'til your daddy takes the T-Bird away!
July 7: Knight Fever & Fireworks!
Groove into the night with Knight Fever and a 70’s disco show choreographed with all the right moves and crazy high energy stage show antics. Enjoy the sounds of K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Bee Gees, Village People, Earth Wind and Fire and other funky music! Following will be a spectacular fireworks show.
July 21: Face to Face: Tribute to Billy Joel & Elton John
This ultimate tribute to Billy Joel and Elton John is a high energy, greatest hits play off in honor of the two famous pop piano masters. Just like the original tour, each artist performs a solo set with a killer rock and roll band. The show culminates with a face to face set on two pianos trading off lyrics on each song they perform with the addition of funny performance bits, sing-a-long parts and spontaneous humor.
August 4; Rumours--Tribute to Fleetwood Mac
Dust off your big hoop earrings and put on those bell bottoms--it's time to rip up some Shag! Rumours has “hands down” the lush rock harmonies of Fleetwood Mac. "Stevie" belts out rock ballads that will take you on a three decade journey through the best dance era ever. Come hear the re-creation of a magical band woven in rock history for producing the era’s most memorable pop/dance tunes.
