Third-Graders Simulate Ellis Island Experience
Willow Elementary's classes enact an authentic Ellis Island processing simulation.
Willow Elementary's third grade classes now know what it was like for the early immigrants to enter our country.
Last week, teachers, students and parents enacted a simulation of Ellis Island as part of their "Journey to America" program, complete with authentic costumes, props and signage all staged in the multi-purpose room.

"The students each assumed the identity of an immigrant arriving in the U.S. in the early-1900s in search of opportunity and a new home," said parent Janice Dingman.
After going through a simulated inspection station, the group was sworn in by Mayor Denis Webber as new American citizens.
