Yerba Buena Goes 'Wild' for Dance

Students, parents and teachers from Yerba Buena Elementary School participated in a dance routine Saturday in celebration of National Dance Day and to kick off a year of dance instruction with professionals from Wild Card Dance Studio.

"Wild Card employees will be teaching dance [this year]," said Principal Christina Desiderio. "It is a new position in line with our arts and technology pan for the 'YB BEAT.'"

The families were sent the Youtube video of "Everybody Dance" which features the song "Treasure" by Bruno Mars prior to the event via email blast so they would be prepared.

About 40 people turned out for the event.

National Dance Day, launched in 2010 by Nigel Lythgoe–So You Think You Can Dance co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president–is an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July. This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity.
