11 Hurt When AC Transit Bus Crashes Into Body Shop In Oakland
The bus had cameras, but the recording system might have been damaged in the crash, which is something investigators are looking into.
OAKLAND, CA — Eleven people were hurt in an East Oakland crash that sent an Alameda-Contra Costa Transit bus careening into an autobody shop Tuesday afternoon, according to AC Transit officials.
At about 1:15 p.m., an AC Transit bus carrying eight passengers and one driver was going through the intersection at Foothill Boulevard and 68th Avenue when it collided with a small SUV, according to agency spokesperson Robert Lyles.
The bus, which was headed north on Foothill, veered into the opposite lanes of traffic, hopped the curb, ran into the All Bout Cars auto shop and lodged itself into the wall.

Everyone on the bus, as well as the driver and the one passenger in the SUV, were all taken to the hospital for treatment, but none were seriously injured, Lyles said.
The crash significantly damaged the bus, mostly on the front right side, so the driver had to be extricated through her side window by firefighters, Lyles said.

All of the passengers were able to use the back door of the 60-foot-long articulated bus to exit.
Oakland police are investigating the crash, but it's too soon to say which vehicle had the green light at the intersection or if impairment might have been a factor.
The bus had cameras, but the recording system might have been damaged in the crash, which is something investigators are looking into.
Recordings from other nearby buses and from security cameras at homes and businesses in the area might also shed some light on the cause of the collision, Lyles said.
