3 Injured In Bart Train Collision With Pickup That Crashed Onto Tracks

45 passengers on the train had to be evacuated following the 11:35 p.m. crash, officials said.

OAKLAND, CA — Three people were injured in a collision late Monday between a BART train and a pickup truck that crashed onto the trackway in Oakland, BART and Oakland police officials said Tuesday.

The collision occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday in the area of East Eighth Street and Seventh Avenue, according to Oakland police.

BART spokesperson Jim Allison said a Daly City-bound train struck the truck between the Coliseum and Lake Merritt stations. The train operator was taken to a hospital for treatment while a passenger on the train also reported injuries, Allison said.

Oakland police said the truck driver was also taken to a hospital, but an update on the driver's condition was not immediately available.

About 45 passengers on the train were evacuated following the collision, which affected BART service through the end of Monday night. No delays were reported on the tracks Tuesday morning related to the crash.

Oakland police are the lead agency in the investigation into the collision since it began in their jurisdiction, Allison said.
