Alameda Free Library Seeks Input From Local Community About Its Future

ALAMEDA, CA — The Alameda Free Library has its future in mind – including a new five-year strategic plan – and it’s seeking input from the local community about it via an online survey and “community conversations.”

Community members are encouraged to share their perspectives about the Alameda Free Library in a brief online survey, in English, Spanish or Chinese, that will be available until July 31. The survey will take an estimated 5 to 8 minutes to complete, according to a news release.

“Community conversations,” scheduled for July 12, 15, 19 and 20 and August 2, are another way for people to express their views about the Alameda Free Library. The days, times (all Pacific Standard Time) and locations of these events are listed here:

  • Saturday, July 12, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the West End Library branch.
  • Tuesday, July 15, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. online via this Zoom link.
  • Saturday, July 19, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Leydecker Recreation Center, 3225 Mecartney Road.
  • Sunday, July 20, from 2 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Family Study Room at the Main Library. Please note that this session will be in Spanish.
  • Saturday, August 2, from 11 a.m. to noon in the second floor conference room at the Main Library. Please note that this session will be in Chinese.

The AFL, whose history dates back to 1877, includes the Main Library at 1550 Oak Street; the West End Library at 788 Santa Clara Avenue; and the Bay Farm Island Library at 3221 Mecartney Road.
