Alameda High Women's Basketball Off to 2-0 Start to Season

Hornets overpower Vintage 81-20, hold off St. Patrick-St. Vincent 61-52 in first two contests of the season.

Nov. 28 and 29, Napa and Vallejo, CA— Alameda’s defensive pressure overwhelmed Napa’s Vintage High early, leading to a 30-7 first quarter advantage and putting the game out of reach. The Hornets went on to win, 81-20. Sophomore Mia Wong and junior Marissa Allen each had 14 points leading nine other Alameda players who scored.

Saturday against St. Patrick-St. Vincent High of Vallejo, the Hornets again applied the press right from tipoff, scoring the game’s first 14 points and finishing the first quarter up 22-6. However, foul trouble would plague the Hornets the rest of the game with Allen carrying four fouls, and Juliana Johnson, who led Alameda with 19 points, fouling out with four minutes left in the game. The Bruins had pulled within 9 points in the second half after being down by as much as 22. The Hornets held on for the win, with freshman Mia Borja making a key three, and guards sophomore Desi Shoblo and Apodaca each making tough drives to secure the 61-52 victory.

Next up for the Hornets are the Matadors of Miramonte who visit Alameda at 7pm Tuesday December 3. The JV game is at 5:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at GoFan.co.
