Read A Book And Beat The Heat At One Of Alameda's Public Libraries
The city also announced expanded hours at its libraries beginning Monday, Sept. 12.
ALAMEDA, CA — With a forecast high of 97 degrees Fahrenheit Tuesday, Sept. 6, the city of Alameda is inviting community members to come to the library as a way to beat the heat.
“If you need a break from the heat, Alameda’s libraries are air-conditioned,” the city said.
The Main Library at 1550 Oak Street is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., the West End Library at 788 Santa Clara Avenue is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the Bay Farm Library at 3221 Mecartney Road is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m.

The city also announced expanded hours at its libraries beginning Monday, Sept. 12.
The Main Library will be open Monday and Tuesday mornings and will be adding an extra hour on Sundays. The West End and Bay Farm Island branches will now be open late on both Monday and Tuesday evenings.

“Creating a more consistent schedule across all three library locations will allow the library to increase patron access to in-person services, schedule a wider variety of storytimes, host more class visits, and offer more programs to working adults, not to mention make it easier for people to remember when the library is open,” the city said in a news release.
The new hours at the Main Library will be Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesdays from noon until 8 p.m., Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
New hours at both the West End and Bay Farm libraries will be Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesdays from noon until 5 p.m., and Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The West End and Bay Farm libraries will be closed on Fridays and Sundays, the city said.
“Beginning that same week, the library will introduce a new storytime schedule,” the city said. “With more open hours, Alameda Free Library will be able to offer the community more storytime options, make it easier for families to attend programs, and decrease overcrowding at some of our more popular sessions.”
All library programs are free and open to the public.
