Alameda Police Arrest Suspect In Credit Card Fraud, Stolen Mail

ALAMEDA, CA — A fraudulent credit card case in early January led Alameda Police Department officers to uncover hundreds of pieces of stolen mail, including personal checks, ID cards, and tax documents belonging to Alameda residents.

The investigation began when a victim reported unauthorized charges totaling over $1,700, prompting officers to track down a suspect.

Last Wednesday, police arrested the suspect outside an Alameda post office.

A subsequent search of their home revealed nearly 300 personal checks, stolen credit cards, and banking information, along with burglary tools and drug paraphernalia.

Detectives are still reviewing the evidence to determine the full scope of the thefts.

The United States Postal Service Inspector’s Office is now involved, to return any unopened mail to its rightful owners.

Authorities have not yet disclosed how many people may have been affected by the thefts.

Residents are urged to monitor their bank accounts for unauthorized transactions or fraudulent accounts. Anyone noticing suspicious activity should contact their bank immediately and file a police report.
