Alameda Police Recorded 160 Violent Crimes in 2012, The Lowest Figure in a Decade
Robberies accounted for half of the violent crimes.

Violent crime dropped more than 20 percent in Alameda between 2011 and 2012, according to numbers from the California Department of Justice. Alameda police recorded 160 violent crimes in 2012, compared to 207 in 2011. In 2003 and 2004, there were 332 and 342 violent crimes respectively.
Exactly half the violent crimes in 2012 were robberies and 70 were assaults. Police also counted nine rapes and one homicide.
Of the 1,892 property crimes reported in 2012, 1,301 were larceny thefts, 296 were burglaries, and 295 were motor vehicle thefts. The number of burglaries was the lowest in a decade.
