📰 News we're reading

• ‘Gamesmanship' and ‘bad faith' alleged by two former DA employees suing Alameda County (eastbaytimes.com) — Two former top staffers are accusing Alameda County’s legal team of stonewalling their discrimination and wrongful-termination lawsuits tied to ex–District Attorney Pamela Price, and are asking a judge to impose sanctions. The disputes center on long-delayed text messages from county-issued phones, even as Price, recalled by voters in 2024, is already campaigning to win back the DA’s office in 2026.

• Gov. Newsom announces $50,000 reward payout in 1982 murder of 14-year-old Bay Area girl (eastbaytimes.com) — Alameda County residents should know that state reward money is still available for information in local cold cases, as Gov. Gavin Newsom highlighted while announcing a $50,000 payout tied to a 1982 Vacaville murder conviction. The governor’s office says these rewards are meant to spur crucial public tips that can finally move long-stalled investigations forward in Alameda and beyond.

• Caltrain ridership surged 57% in 2025, but funding cliff looms (eastbaytimes.com) — Alameda County residents could see a new regional sales tax in 2026 to help keep Caltrain, BART, AC Transit and other Bay Area transit systems running as they face a looming funding gap. Caltrain ridership has surged 57% in 2025 thanks to electrified service, but officials warn that without the proposed tax, deep service cuts and station closures may follow within a few years.
