Alameda Police Reported Fewer Crimes to FBI in 2012

Alameda police reported 160 violent crimes in 2012. That’s a decrease of 47 violent crimes from 2011.
The number of property crimes also decreased, from 1,898 in 2011 to 1,892 last year. In 2012, Alameda had a violent crime rate of 2.1 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 25 known offenses per 1,000 people.
The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.
The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. Alameda has 1.1 sworn officers for every 1,000 residents, which is slightly below the East Bay average of 1.2.
