Alameda Restaurant Has Best French Fries In Bay Area: Mercury News
The Mercury News selected an Alameda newcomer as one of the 11 best spots for fries in the region.

ALAMEDA, CA — The Mercury News named Saltbreaker in Alameda as one of the 11 best spots for French fries in the Bay Area.
"Anyone who’s ventured to Alameda Point knows there are gourmet treasures lurking on this wind-blasted former naval air base," the paper notes as it recommends Saltbreaker. "The menu offers modern Californian bistro food like Ora King salmon with coconut green curry and pea tendrils, steak frites and roasted Brussels with fig balsamic and Spanish chorizo."
The menu also includes sandwiches — challah buns stuffed with your choice of a bacon burger, grilled chicken or crispy eggplant.
Small plates range from deviled eggs to a charcuterie board.
Setting off the salmon, steak frites, burgers and other main dishes are delectable fries.
"The thin, crispy shoestring-potato Fancy Fries are topped with parsley and Parmesan shavings — scented with garlic but without the oily slick of some garlic fries. Perfectly salted and golden, with bits of earthy potato bark on the end, they’ll be gone before you know it."
Saltbreaker is located at 2350 Saratoga St. in Alameda. The eatery is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday and for brunch the first Sunday of each month.
