SAN JOSE, CA — Bay FC Head Coach Albertin Montoya has decided to step down at the end of the 2025 season, Bay FC announced Monday.

The announcement comes following a four-game losing streak. The team has seven more matches under Montoya's leadership. In the meantime, the search for next season's coach will be underway.

“I have so much love for these players, staff, and fans," said Montoya. "We’ve built a culture and a style of play that I believe will compete for championships for years to come."

"I want to thank everyone at the Bay FC organization for their support," he said. "I look forward to finishing this season strong and for this club continuing to accomplish great things.”

Montoya has served as Bay FC's head coach since the team's inaugural season, in 2024, in the National Women's Soccer League. He was previously the interim head coach for the NWSL team, Washington Spirit. In the former Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league, he coached the Bay Area team, FC Gold Pride.

The news of Montoya's stepping down post-season comes after the Bay FC's Saturday home match loss to Kansas City Current, with a final score of 0-2. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the team.

Kay Cossington, the CEO of Bay Collective, "will be leading the sporting efforts of the club going forward, including the selection of the club’s next head coach," according to Bay FC.

“Right out of the gate, Bay FC has shown it belongs on the biggest stage," said Cossington. "Thanks to Albertin and the sporting staff’s efforts, Bay FC has established a strong foundation on the pitch and I’m excited to help elevate the club further and put Bay FC in the best position to compete at the highest level for years to come.”

Bay FC's next match is an away game against Orlando Pride. It gets underway on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT.
