Meditation for Inner Peace During Turbulent Times: We are living in a time that often feels confusing and stressful. People are more anxious and there is often a struggle to find ways to stay positive and true to our inner core. Incorporating meditation in our lives can be the change that can make a big difference in our lives and the lives of others. By tapping into the power of Meditation we can learn a powerful technique that is life changing. Through meditation we can experience a profound peace, bliss and happiness unlike any we can find in the world. We can calm the body and the mind. Participants will have a chance to try this simple meditation technique which is the secret to profound personal well-being and global healing. Join the zoom meeting at https://alamedaca-gov.zoom.us/j/85225138309Lab Workshop: Basic Computing: This workshop, Basic Computing (Windows 10), will cover the basics of navigating Windows and all of the general visual cues that apply system wide. We’ll go over shortcuts and introduce file management techniques. No computer experience is necessary to attend this workshop. We will be focusing on the Windows 10 Operating System, but all operating systems welcome. You may register for this event in person by stopping by the Circulation Desk at the Main Library and signing up. Sign up is also available online on the library website at bit.ly/AFLcomputerlabTaking Control of Your Finances in 8 Steps: Learn the basics on how to take control of your finances and have your questions answered by volunteers from the Financial Planning Association of the East Bay. We will talk about the calculation of your net worth, how to draw up a spending plan, build an emergency fund and much more. Have you been anxiously awaiting a new book and you want the library to buy it? Do you need an impressive membership to put on your applications and resumes? Join the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) to let the library know what you’re interested in. The Teen Advisory Board is your chance to make a difference in the library for yourself and other teens in Alameda. Members of the Teen Advisory Board will plan be involved in planning Teen programs and choose teen events. Teen Advisory Board members will earn community service hours for every meeting and event that they participate in.Teen Book Club: Teen book club members choose what we read from a variety of titles and genres each month and every book club member gets a free copy of the book to keep. This month’s title is Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson All teens, ages 13 to 18, are invited to join the book group. *How book club's timeline works: The monthly title will be the book we're discussing when we meet that month. For example, you would pick up your copy and read it by February 2, then we meet on February 2 to talk about it, and vote on the next book to read. Registration link is on the calendar. We will be meeting in person in the Family Study Room at the Main Library. Masks are required. Email Kat at kkong@alamedaca.gov with any questions.Dungeons & Dragons: Want to try Dungeons & Dragons but can’t find a group? Looking for a new party? Come to our Dungeons & Dragons Teen Meetup! We will be playing a stand-alone adventure in 5th edition. No previous experience required. Character sheets will be provided as well as rules explanations and dice.Game Break: Don’t forget to take a break…A GAME BREAK! Try out our new games and/or watch others play. No Registration needed, masks required. Teens only!Lawyers in the Library: The Lawyers in the Library program provides free 15 minute consultations by phone with a volunteer attorney who will provide guidance on legal matters. Examples of areas covered include landlord/tenant disputes, probate matters, employment problems and other general consumer issues. Registration required.
