City Is Auditing Business Licenses

Unlicensed businesses in Alameda will be required to obtain business licenses.

From a City of Alameda press release:

The City of Alameda has hired Municipal Auditing Services, LLC (MAS) out of Fresno, California, to audit all business licenses operating within the City limits.

The purpose of the audit is to ensure that all businesses are treated fairly so that no business gains an unfair advantage by not paying or underpaying taxes.

On behalf of the City of Alameda, MAS will locate unlicensed businesses and compel them to obtain licenses and pay taxes like everyone else. MAS will also audit existing business licenses to ensure they are neither paying too much nor too little taxes.
