Freeway Shooting Prompts Attempted Murder Charges

Two defendants have been charged in the case.

HAYWARD, CA — Two people have been charged in connection with a freeway shooting in Hayward earlier this month, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

Elias Nathaniel Jimenez, 22, and Maria Rosalia Martinez, 43, have been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly shooting into another vehicle which contained an adult and a minor on Interstate Highway 880 on Aug. 6.

Jimenez and Martinez have been charged with attempted murder, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, shooting into an occupied vehicle and possession of a large-capacity magazine, prosecutors said.

Jimenez is also charged with a special allegation-use of a firearm and a special allegation of possessing a loaded unregistered firearm.

If convicted of all charges, Jimenez faces a maximum of 23 years and 9 months in state prison, prosecutors said. Martinez faces a maximum of 13 years and 2 months in state prison.

Both defendants are scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on Aug. 27.
