Kindergartners to Visit 'Safety Town' Next Week

The Alameda Fire and Police Departments will present the 39th annual “Safety Town” event, for Alameda kindergarteners, the week of Monday, Oct. 28, through Friday, Nov. 1 at Alameda Point.

Firefighters and police officers teach will children about fire, pedestrian, and traffic safety, as well as the importance of 9-1-1. 

Alameda kindergarteners are brought from their schools to visit Safety Town; a miniature streetscape with sidewalks and crosswalks, buildings, stop signs and a working traffic signal.

,An interactive fire safety class is taught with the help of “Freddy,” a miniature talking fire truck.

In addition to the instruction from firefighters and police officers, the children will get to see a fire truck, police car, ambulance and school bus. 

Fire Chief Mike D’Orazi said, "Safety Town has become an institution in the education of Alameda's school children and the ongoing mission to keep our young citizens safe. I thank our partners and the dedicated professionals of the Alameda Fire and Police Departments for ensuring Safety Town's continued success. ” 

Safety Town is made possible by the Alameda Fire and Police Departments, Bayview Women’s Club, Kiwanis, and Alameda Unified School District.
