Volunteers from around Oakland visited area elementary schools in honor of Pride Month and shared books celebrating LGBTQ+ diversity in literature. The LGBTQ+ Read-In event is among four Read-Ins sponsored by the Oakland Public Education Fund—the Ed Fund— each year, including the Latinx Read-In in early October; African American Read-In in late January; and Asian Pacific American Read-In during May. Hundreds of volunteers, read aloud in person and virtually, to encourage students to develop a lifelong love of reading. For information on the Ed Fund's Read-Ins and other one-time volunteer opportunities, visit One-Time Volunteers or contact Alicia Parise at osv@oaklandedfund.org.
