OAKLAND, CA — A motorcyclist died in a crash on eastbound Interstate 580 in the vicinity of Fruitvale Avenue in Oakland in the early hours Saturday, a California Highway Patrol officer confirmed.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, but the motorcycle ended up in the far left lane, with the motorcyclist's body in the lane next to it, said CHP Officer Adib Zeid. The crash was first reported around 3:20 a.m., Zeid said.

The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries as a result of being struck by a vehicle or vehicles, Zeid said.
