Oakland Construction Site Collapse: 13 Injured
Breaking: The workers were pouring concrete on the second floor of a building when it collapsed.

OAKLAND, CA — Thirteen construction workers fell from the second story of an under-construction building in Oakland Friday when the floor fell out from under them as they were pouring concrete, a fire battalion chief said.
The workers were pouring concrete at the building on Broadway near Hawthorne Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. when the floor fell out from under them. They were all trapped. Some fell 10-15 feet into wet concrete
below while others were left hanging from scaffolding. Some of them managed to get out on their own and firefighters rescued the others, fire Battalion Chief Ian McWhorter said.
There were no serious injuries, but several people were taken to a hospital with scrapes, bruises and back strain, McWhorter said. No one was working on the first floor at the time of the collapse. A city engineer and the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health responded to investigate what caused the collapse.
