SigAlert: Pedestrian Killed Crossing I-880 In The East Bay
Authorities say the pedestrian was struck by a car while trying to cross Interstate 880 around 5:41 a.m.
OAKLAND, CA — A pedestrian was killed Monday morning in a crash on the Interstate 880 in Oakland, authorities said.
The crash happened around 5:41 a.m. on the southbound I-880 near the 16th Avenue off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol's traffic incident page.
CHP says the pedestrian was trying to cross from the right-hand shoulder on the freeway to the center divide when they were struck by at least one car, according to the California Highway Patrol. The impact of the crash sent the pedestrian's body into the fast lane on the left-hand side, authorities said.

The pedestrian was only identified as a male.
CHP issued a SigAlert just after 6 a.m., warning that the crash would cause severe traffic and advising drivers to use alternative roadways.
