Police Log: Young Robbery Suspect Waits for Police, Drunks Drive, Man Conceals Machete

Plus, a good citizen finds a lost laptop and turns it over to police.

A 14-year-old boy stole an iPod and headphones from a male victim on Park Avenue, near Jackson Park, about 2:20 p.m. — but then told an acquaintance about the robbery and waited until police arrived, an Alameda Police Department spokesperson said.

Lt. Jill Ottaviano said the acquaintance notified police of the incident and waited with the youth for the officers' arrival. 

According to the Sept. 22 police log, the youth became distraught after he was arrested and police asked for a psychiatric evaluation.

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log Sept. 21-22. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 21

Drunk driving #1 — Police stopped a vehicle near the corner of Park Street and Blanding Avenue about 1:40 a.m. when they observed a Vehicle Code violation. The driver, a 41-year-old woman, failed a field sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended or revoked license, police said.

Drunk driving #2 — Police caught up with a driver who left the scene of a multi-car collision on foot without exchanging insurance information with the drivers of the vehicles she damaged. The fleeing driver, a 36-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated shortly before 3 a.m. near Willow Street and Santa Clara Avenue.

Drunk driving #3 — Police arrested a 40-year-old man who was involved in a collision on San Antonio Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Police said the man's 5-year-old daughter was a passenger in his vehicle at the time of the collision. He was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and driving while intoxicated.

Auto recovery — A vehicle reported stolen from San Jose was located in the 3000 block of Central Avenue shortly after 6 a.m.

Auto thefts — Two vehicles were reported stolen in separate incidents, one from the 3200 block of Briggs Avenue and the other from near the corner of Fourth Street and Marshall Way.

Concealed weapon — A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed "dirk or dagger" near Santa Clara Avenue and Ninth Street a little after 2:30 p.m. Police said the man had a concealed machete.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 22

Auto recovery — A vehicle reported stolen in San Francisco was located on Corpus Christi Road.

Auto burglary — Someone broke a window of a vehicle parked in the 1600 block of Stanton Street, reached inside and removed items.

Grand theft — Someone tole an outboard motor from a boat at the Alameda Marina, 1815 Clement Ave.

Laptops lost and found — A laptop computer was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Buena Vista Avenue, between Poggi and Fifth streets. A few minutes after the owner reported the theft, someone found a laptop at the other end of town — near Buena Vista and Oakland Street — and turned it in to police. It's not clear if it was the same laptop.
