Shooting At Upscale Restaurant Has Business Planning Move

"I've worked so hard to get to where I am right now," the chef said. "This makes me want to give up."

OAKLAND, CA — An upscale restaurant in downtown Oakland is planning to move after two people were injured in a shooting Friday inside the business, according to reports.

A 24-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were shot around 8:15 p.m. Friday at Pierre Pierre in the 400 block of 13th Street, according to the East Bay Times.

Chef Cleashaun Hill posted a video on Instagram of the dining room in the aftermath of the gunfire, which showed crime scene tape, bullet holes in the window, tables and chairs overturned, and what appeared to be blood on the floor.

“How do we pick up the pieces? How do we carry on? Like, are we going to be safe?” Hill asked in a separate Instagram video. “I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am right now. … This makes me want to give up.”

Pierre Pierre was founded in 2023 as “a sanctuary for Black excellence,” according to a GoFundMe started in the wake of the incident.

Contributions will assist the business, its staff and the families of those who were injured as Pierre Pierre works to relocate, rebuild and enhance its security, according to the fundraiser, which had received nearly $40,000 in donations as of Wednesday evening.

“This tragedy has shaken us, but it has not broken us,” the GoFundMe said. “We still believe in what this restaurant represents, and we still believe in what’s possible when we come together.”
