Tee up for Oakland Schools Sept. 10

Oakland Public Education Fund hosts inaugural Golf Tournament Fundraiser to support community literacy

The Oakland Public Education Fund (“Ed Fund”) will host its first-ever Golf Tournament Fundraiser, “Tee Up for Oakland Schools,” on Saturday, Sept. 10, featuring special guests Preston Pinkney, director of Ace Kids Golf, and two teams of young golfers from the program.

“We’re excited to welcome Preston and these talented students,” said Ali Medina, Ed Fund Executive Director. “The Ed Fund and Ace Kids Golf have similar missions. We invest in student success throughout our Oakland Schools, while Ace Kids provides opportunities for underserved kids through the game of golf.”

Proceeds from the tournament will be directed toward the Ed Fund’s literacy efforts including Children’s Literature Read-Ins, and support the Oakland Unified School District in their literacy work.

“Literacy is key to accessing information students need to explore the world. It provides opportunities for their academic development and helps open doors to their bright and successful futures,” Medina said.

Additionally, some of the proceeds will support an Ace Kids Girls Golf Day for approximately 300 elementary students from throughout Oakland.

“Our young people are honored to represent Ace Kids Golf at Tee Up for Oakland Schools,” Pinkney said. “They also appreciate the Ed Fund’s support not only in their schools but for this fantastic program.”

The tournament will be at Lake Chabot Golf Course, 11450 Golf Links Road, Oakland. Situated in the Oakland Hills with panoramic views of downtown and Bay Bridge, the course offers 27 holes of pristine playing conditions—including a par-6, 667-yard finishing hole.

The Ed Fund is the only fundraising organization for all Oakland Public Schools. Throughout the year, the Ed Fund provides essential tools and resources for students that support academic achievement and enhance educational experiences.

“Providing quality educational opportunities for all Oakland students not only strengthens them as individuals—it contributes to the growth and success of the entire Oakland community,” said Marjorie Goux, Ed Fund Board Chair.
