Altadena Student Named 'Star Reader' in National Scholastic Reading Club Contest

Winner to be Featured in Scholastic's Iconic Reading Club Flyers

Local Altadena student, Elizabeth Rodriguez, a second grader at Daniel Webster Elementary School, has been selected from more than 14,000 entries as a Scholastic Reading Club Star Reader. Elizabeth will appear in the national Second Grader May flyer, along with a review of Sleepover Squad #5: Pony Party, by P.J. Denton, and will also receive a 10-book library.

Elizabeth is a Star Reader because of her nomination from her teacher that said that she gets her work done quickly in class and then "sneaks" a book if she's close to the end!

Parents and teachers nominated students this past fall by sharing what makes the child a Star Reader, his or her favorite book, and an optional photograph. A total of 32 winners were randomly selected to be featured in the iconic Scholastic Reading Club flyers from February through May 2014. The flyers are distributed each month to students across the country. All the Star Reader nominations are featured on the gallery at scholastic.com/starreader.
