Candidates for June 5 Primary Election Finalized

With the candidates on the June 5 primary election ballot finalized, campaigns and voter registration drives are underway.

Recently drawn redistricting maps put previous local representatives Sen. Bob Huff, Rep. David Dreier and Assemblyman Tim Donnelly in new districts, leaving Arcadia voters voting for brand new representatives in the state Senate, House of Representatives and Assembly.

Races for the new districts representing Arcadia include U.S. House of Representatives 27th District, state Senate 22nd District and state Assembly 49th District.

The top two vote-getters in the June 5 primary election will advance to the Nov. 6 general election regardless of party preference or whether one candidate receives a majority of votes in the primary. The primary election will include elections for U.S. President, the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives and state Assembly.

State Senate District 22 won't be included in this year's election cycle, however, a committee will appoint a representative for the district. That representative will remain responsible for the district until the next election cycle in 2014.

The deadline to register for the June Primary Election is May 21.
