Fire Blotter: Driver Crawls Out From Overturned Vehicle

The Arcadia Fire Department also dealt with several medical assists.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 17-23. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period.

Medical Assist: Altered Mental State

At 8:44 a.m. on June 17, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of South First Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a woman suffering from an altered mental state. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including: oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring and drug therapy. The patient was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

Vegetation Fire

At 4:20 p.m. on June 18, Engine 105 responded to a reported vegetation fire in the 5000 block of Peck Road. Fire crews found a small vegetation fire on arrival. Fire personnel performed progressive hose lays to extinguish and overhaul the fire. The Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded to the incident and assisted with manpower and water.

At 10:32 a.m. on June 19, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real. Fire personnel evaluated a woman suffering from chest pain with shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including: oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Gas Leak

At 7:56 p.m. on June 20, Engine 107 responded to a gas leak outside of a structure in the 1000 block of Singing Wood Drive. The homeowner advised suppression personnel of a propane odor emanating from construction materials on her property. Fire personnel investigated and found a leaking propane cylinder in the area. The propane leak was isolated and contained. The construction company was notified and responded to the location to attend to the tank.

Medical Assist: Seizure

At 9:18 a.m. on June 21, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 900 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a man suffering from an altered mental state following a seizure. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including: oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Overturned Vehicle

At 7 p.m. on June 22, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle in the 100 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. The overturned sport utility vehicle had no occupants. Paramedics assessed vehicle's driver, who had crawled out of the vehicle to safety prior to firefighters' arrival. The driver received basic life support measures on-scene, including full spinal precautions. The driver was treated and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Medical Assist: Fainting

At 3:53 p.m. on June 23, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of East Duarte Road. Fire crews evaluated an elderly woman who experienced a syncopal, or, fainting, episode. The patient stated that physical exertion, lack of food and exposure to the sun caused the fainting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene, including: intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, a blood glucose reading and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
