Fire Blotter: Man Falls From Ladder

The Arcadia Fire Department dealt with an appliance fire and a number of medical assists.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 1-7. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

Monday, April 2

    •    At 10:32 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Fire crews evaluated an elderly woman suffering from shortness of breath. Fire personnel provided advanced life support measures on scene; including an intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and respiratory medication. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, April 3

    •    At 10:10 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of North Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a minor female patient who experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support; including intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring, oxygen therapy and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, April 4

    •    At 4:52 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, with units from Pasadena and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, responded to a major appliance fire in the 1100 block of Arcadia Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene and reported light smoke coming from the residence. Fire personnel investigated further and discovered a small fire and smoke resulting from items inside the oven. The items were removed from the oven and structure and fully extinguished. Horizontal ventilation was provided to remove smoke from the structure. The oven was overhauled and walls check for fire extension with a thermal imaging camera. The fire was investigated and the structure released to the homeowner.

Thursday, April 5

    •    At 2:06 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of East St. Joseph Avenue for a reported major trauma. Fire crews arrived on scene and evaluated a male patient who had fallen from a ladder and sustained injuries to his head, face and back. Fire paramedics assessed the patient, placed him in full spinal immobilization and transported him to for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, April 6

    •    At 9:53 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from a possible stroke. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene; including oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, April 7

    •    At 12:37 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision with injuries at the intersection of North Baldwin Avenue and West Foothill Boulevard. Fire personnel found one patient suffering from minor to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
