Fire Blotter: Woman Kicked by Horse

It was a busy week for the Arcadia Fire Department.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Feb. 12-18. The following is a breakdown of incident types
recorded for this period:

Feb. 12:

At 9:10 a.m., Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision with persons trapped in the 600 block of West Foothill Boulevard. Fire personnel investigated a traffic collision with a van that had gone down an embankment and through a sound wall. One patient with minor injuries extricated him or herself from the vehicle. The patient received basic life support at the scene. The patient turned down further treatment or transport against medical advice.

Feb. 13:

At 4:59 p.m., Engine 105 was dispatched to a rubbish fire in the 1000 block of La Cadena Avenue. Fire crews discovered a fully involved dumpster fire to the rear of the property. Fire personnel accessed the property and laid four hundred feet of fire hose to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to the dumpster. 

Feb. 14:

At 10:25 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a man suffering from an altered mental status. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring and drug therapy. The patient was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 15:

At 11:50 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a major trauma in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews evaluated a woman suffering from abdominal pain after being kicked by a horse.  Paramedics provided advanced life support on scene, including intravenous access, pain management and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to a local trauma center.

Feb. 16:

At 11:37 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of Duarte Road. Fire crews evaluated an elderly woman who was suffering from chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support, including oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 18:

At 1:12 p.m., Engine 107 responded to a fire alarm in the 1200 block of North Oak Haven Road. Fire crews discovered that the fire alarm had been activated by dust generated from construction work inside the residence. The alarm was reset and the homeowner and contractor were advised to place the system on test with their monitoring company prior to doing any type of construction work inside.
