Fire Blotter: Woman Pronounced Dead at the Scene

The Arcadia Fire Department also treated another woman who fell down a flight of stairs in an commercial building and wasn't discovered until the following morning.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 8-14. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

At 6:31 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Battalion 105, Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106 and units from the Monrovia Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 Block of West Lemon Avenue. Suppression personnel found light smoke to the rear of a structure on arrival. Upon further investigation, firefighters determined the smoke originated from the resident’s burning dead vegetation in an empty swimming pool. Fire personnel advised the resident that burning vegetation is illegal. Fire Crews utilized hand lines and hand tools to mitigate the hazard.

Monday, April 9

At 5:40 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 1000 block of Whispering Pines Drive. Fire crews were met curbside by a male patient suffering from heart palpitations and chest pains. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, drug therapy and oxygen therapy. The patient was taken to for further evaluation and treatment. 

 

Tuesday, April 10

At 3:24 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a male assault victim who was suffering from facial and jaw pain, blurred vision, loss of hearing, neck and back pain, and a deformed clavicle. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

 

Wednesday, April 11

At 5:40 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Newman Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a male patient suffering from head pain after striking his head on a tree branch. Paramedics conducted a neuro-assessment on scene and placed the patient in full cervical spine immobilization. The patient was transported to a local trauma center for further evaluation and treatment.

 

Thursday, April 12

At 6:53 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews evaluated a female patient who experienced a mechanical trip and fall down a flight of stairs inside a business complex. The patient had fallen the previous evening but, having suffered a possible cervical fracture, was unable to move until she was discovered the following morning. Paramedics provided advanced life support on scene; including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

 

Friday, April 13

At 1:56 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision, involving a pedestrian, in the 200 block of East Foothill Boulevard. Fire personnel evaluated a male patient suffering from minor to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, intravenous access, cardiac monitoring and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

 

Saturday, April 14

At 8:57 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Haven Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a female patient who was pulseless and not breathing. Paramedics followed Los Angeles County Field Protocols and pronounced the patient dead at the scene. The body was consigned to Arcadia Police, who requested the County Coroner.
